Lorenzo Gobbo, the Italian cyclist got impaled by a 2-foot-long piece of wood during the track race in Belgium

Lorenzo Gobbo is the name of the Italian Cyclist who had to be rushed immediately to the hospital on last Friday after he suffered a crash on his bike during the Belgium track race that led to him being impaled by a 2-foot long piece of wood.

The wood was impaled in the side of the cyclist and he had to undergo a 3-hour long surgery to have it removed. The piece of wood cut through his right thigh and then went on to puncture his lung.

Gobbo is currently being kept in ICU of the Jan Palfijn hospital where is slowly but surely recovering as per the news from the chief executive of Belgium’s cycling federation named Frank Glorieux.

According to the local media news, Gobbo was able to remain conscious after being impaled and the healthcare personnel was able to stop his bleeding before they reached the hospital.

Gobbo was participating in the race of the European Junior and Under-23 Track Championships. The 2-foot long piece of wood had gotten straight after a pedal hit the race track during the collision of the previous cyclists.
