Both Kawhi Leonard and Gregg Popovich shared some laughs and pleasantries following the Los Angeles Clippers win over the former team of Kawhi Leonard; the San Antonio Spurs.
If Leonard is going to have many more of these wins against his former team, Popovich will not be smiling anymore.
Leonard leads the Los Angeles Clippers with his 38 points on top of his 12 rebounds as Clippers got a 103-97 win over the San Antonio Spurs. This is the first loss of the season for the Spurs and for Leonard’s, this was his first double-double of the season and the first one in the last 3 meetings against the Spurs.
Leonard played 7 seasons with Spurs before his trade to the Toronto Raptors back in 2018.
As for the 38 points posted by Leonard, this marks his 5th most points scored during a regular-season game for his 8-year career.
Leonard, talking about facing his old team said, “It was something that I was very much looking forward to. Just to be able to play against my old team and my old coach is really fun.”
Leonard is now 2-1 against his former team and while his departure for the Spurs was not a good one, he still holds a good relationship with Popovich.
Popovich said of Leonard, “I thought he was really great tonight.” When someone asked about Leonard’s coaching, he replied, “Doc’s coaching him now, I am not. I only said that he had a great game and there is nothing else to say here.”
Up next for the Los Angeles Clippers is the game that they will host against the Utah Jazz on Sunday. As for the San Antonio Spur, they will be visiting the Golden State Warriors for their first set of back-to-back games of the season.
