Maisie Summers-Newton took part in the relay of SM6 Individual 200m at the World Championships and not only did she won the Gold at the competition but also broke the world record she previously set herself.
17 years old swimmer who had earlier recorded the best time of the race completed the race second time at the mark of 2:57.24 which is 0.74 seconds faster than the previous world record which she also set earlier this year in Glasgow at the World Series.
Summers-Newton, talking to media said, “This was such a good swim and to perform it in front of this crowd was such an amazing thing. I am very happy with this.”
She further said, “I got out of the water and asked my sister as to why she was crying? I think she was really happy to see me do this in front of our home crowd.”
Another swimmer who was the home crowd favorite was Alice Tai as she kept the crowd on the edge of their seats right near the end during the final of S8 100m Butterfly.
Alice Tai finished for the Championship record of 1:09.76 as she won her 3rd gold medal.
For the most part of the swim racer, Tai seemed to be in lead but Jessica Long of USA picked up pace during the last 50 meters swim to only finish 0.02 second behind Tai.
Tia said to media, “that was a really, really close win. It was a pretty cool race to win but it was also intense one too. I could see Jessica on my left and could also listen to cheers of the crowd and honestly, I was panicking. At one point I thought that I definitely don’t have this. I knew that this one would be the one that would end real close. Now just to have won it, I feel outrageously lucky.”
