Maria Sharapova will miss Indian Wells due to shoulder injury

Maria Sharapova, the two-time champion is going to miss pout playing the next month’s BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells as she suffers from a right shoulder injury.

The former world no. 1, Sharapova has only played in two events since last summer’s US Open tournament. She has been forced to withdraw or retire midway from two tournaments.

She managed to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open this year before she lost to Ashleigh Barty. Then again, at the end of January, she pulled out during the second round match of the St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy.

The news has been confirmed by the tournament officials. She has won the tournament twice, once back in 2006 and once in 2013.

With Sharapova pulling out of the tournament, this has allowed the German player Mona Barthel to secure her place at the Indian Wells singles draw. The tournament will start from March 4th and end on March 17th, 2019.
