Mariano Rivera, the former New York Yankees closer has become the first player to be elected to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame unanimously.
Rivera, who was amongst the four-players including his former teammate Mike Mussina and other two players Edgar Martinez and Roy Halladay; appeared on the 425 ballots sent in by the Baseball Writers’ Association of American voters. The result will be announced on Monday morning.
Before Rivera, Ken Griffey Jr. was the highest percentage vote-getter who was entered in the Baseball Hall of Fame by 437 of the total 440 ballots back in 2016.
Rivera, who is considered as the best closer in the baseball history with his 652 saves in his 19 years long career, said about the result, “this was just beyond my imagination. Just to be considered for the Hall of Fame is an honor in its own self but to win by unanimous is just amazing.”
