Miami Open; Roger Federer books quarter-final match with Kevin Anderson

Roger Federer has managed to move into the last 8 of the Miami Open after he defeated Daniil Medvedev by straight sets victory.

The 13th seed of the tournament, Medvedev was defeated by 3-time Miami Open champion Federer by 6-4 and 6-2. Their match was earlier delayed due to rainy weather.

As for the match, Federer had little trouble in getting this victory as he finished the match in 61 minutes as he made only 8 unforced errors.

Federer said, “I am feeling really good with today’s match. This match will give me confidence for my match tomorrow. When you go deep into a tournament, you need those crucial 15 minutes that go in your favor. Those minutes when you are able to score too.”

For Federer to win his 4th Miami Open title, he will have to win 4 matches in the coming five days. His first hurdle is to defeat the 6th seed, Kevin Anderson.

Federer is aiming to take the revenge of his defeat against Anderson who defeated him last year at the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. Talking about that, Federer said, “If you beat me at Wimbledon, then you have my attention.”

In other matches, the defending champion of the Miami Open John Isner has already managed to make it to the semi-finals. He will be facing the 18 years old teen player Felix Auger who earlier defeated Borna Coric by 7-6 and 6-2 on Wednesday night.

As for the women’s draw, the 2nd seed Simona Halep also managed to cruise into the semi-finals after she defeated the quarterfinals opponent Qiang Wang by 6-4 and 7-5.

For her semi-finals, she will be facing Karolina Pliskova and if she defeats her, she would make it back to world rank no. 1.

Pliskova said of the upcoming match, “I think it is going to be a good match. With Simona, the quality of tennis is always great and the intensity is also high.”
