Mookie Betts was a major problem for the New York Yankees. The outfielder of the Boston Red Sox MLB team managed to strike 3 home runs on his first 3 at-bats for the 1st, 3rd and the 4th innings. The first two-homer runs were solo shots while the third one was turned out to be a 2-run homer at all over the Fenway Park.
For the All-Star player, this was the 5th three-home run game of his career making him able to tie with the likes of Alex Rodriguez, Dave Kingman, Joe Carter, Mark McGwire, and Carlos Delgado.
Betts was 4 for 5 on the night as he hit a double during the 6th innings en route to lead his team’s victory by 10-4 against the New York Yankees.
This is 4th day in a row when an MLB player to have strike 3 home runs in a single game. Back on Thursday, this feat was achieved by the Minnesota Twins’ Nelson Cruz while on Wednesday this was achieved by St Louis Cardinals’ Paul DeJong and lastly on Tuesday by New York Mets’ Robinson Cano.
Betts said after the game, “It is just crazy to see it happen once but to see this 4 days in a row, I guess there are some really good hitters out there and they are really showing their game.”
Betts is now the third player from the Red Sox to have slugged three homers in a single game against the New York Yankees at the Fenway Park. He has joined the likes of Red Sox players like Kevin Millar, Mo Vaughan, and Steve Pearce.
