Johanna Konta, the British no. 1 managed to cruise into the last 4 of the Morocco Open in Rabat with her third consecutive win of the event.
Ponta managed to save 3 points in her match against Chinese player Wang Yafan in the opening round and then she defeated her second-round opponent Ana Bogdan in 3 sets to set up the quarterfinals in Rabat.
During her Thursday’s quarterfinal match against the Taiwanese player, the 2nd seed of the tournament, Hsieh Su-wei, Konta was down by a set. Still, she made a remarkable comeback to win the match by 6-7, 6-4 and 6-4.
Hsieh took the control of the match with a 3-0 lead in the opening set despite Konta trying her best to force a tie-break. However, her efforts proved a little too short as the first set went into the favor of Hsieh.
Konta managed to make a comeback in the second set as she broke the lead of 5-3. At 5-4, Konta managed to receive 3 set points before she managed to win the second set.
In the third and final set, Konta fought bravely while the Taiwanese player made double faults to dish out 3 match points to Konta who ultimately went on to win the match.
With this win, Konta will now play against Ajla Tomljanovic in the Saturday’s final. The Croatian managed to cruise into the semi-finals after defeating Swedish player Rebecca Peterson by 6-2 and 6-4.
