In the finals of the World Boxing Super Series, Naoya Inoue was able to win over his opponent Nonito Donaire on points to unify the two world titles of the bantamweight division.
The reapportion as well as the unbeaten record of Naoya Inoue was at risk when his opponent made a late assault in the fight. Still, the Naoya Inoue with bad cut then made a blast of power against the Filipino to send him to canvas and then seal his win by unanimous point’s decision of the fight in Japan by scores of 116-111, 117-109 and 114-113.
In the opening round of this exciting fight, Donaire started on the front foot with him forcing Naoya Inoue with his aggression. The roars of the crowd from their backs propelled the 2 fighters to traded shots fiercely against each other at the Super Arena located in Saitama.
Naoya Inoue then quickly demonstrated the power that had earned him the nickname of Monster as he off balanced his opponent in the 2nd round.
Still, the veteran fighter Donaire refused to go down as he unleashed his won barrage of punches during the 3rd round that left Naoya Inoue with a gaping cut on his right eye as well as bleeding nose. The 4th round also saw Donaire in total control.
The home favorite exploded during the 5th as Donaire’s legs stiffed following him taking a right-hand punch. Naoya Inoue continued to blast off his opponent’s defense during the 6th and 7th rounds.
The 8th saw Donaire still unwilling to go down without a fight as he produced another massive right hand to wobble The Monster and then hurt him some more in the 9th with a spiteful right punch.
Sensing the peril, Naoya Inoue unleashed a ferrous rally of punches and then sent his opponent to floor with a body shot fired during the 11th. Donaire still endured further beating until he was saved by the bell.
Naoya Inoue after winning the belts for the WBA Super and IBF titles, said, “Since the 2nd round, I had double vision. I am very happy and proud of my win. I think Donaire was a real champion and a very strong fighter.”
