Nature Valley International in Eastbourne; Angelique Kerber wins over Simona Halep to make it to last 4

Angelique Kerber has made it through her quarterfinals match against Simona Halep to win by 6-4 and 6-3 and made it to the semi-finals of the Nature Valley Classic at Eastbourne.

With this win, Kerber has now managed to reach to the fourth semi-finals of the grass court campaign. She was able to win the match in 70 minutes as she converted 5 of her 7 break points.

Kerber, the defending champion o the tournament was able to take early leads on winning both sets.

Kerber said, “I am very happy with the way I played today. It is always such a tough battle against Simona. When I am up against her I know I need to play with my best tennis as she is a great player. She is a champion who has won so much in the last few years. So I was just focusing on my game and trying to have a good match on grass. For me to be back here is always great. I have so many great memories here and I love to play on this grass court.”

Up next, Kerber will be facing Ons Jabeur in the semis who earlier won over her quarterfinals match against Alize Cornet by 1-6, 7-5 and 6-3.

Jabeur earlier defeated Johanna Konta in the third round match had been enjoying herself in the grass-court event but she did suffer an ankle roll during her match against Cornet.

In other matches of the quarterfinals, Kiki Bertens was able to advance to the semis by winning over Aryna Sabalenka by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4.

With this win, Bertens has now made it to her 7th WTA semifinals of the year. Next, she will play against Karolina Pliskova who defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova by 6-2 and 6-0 in a match that was only 52 minutes long.
