At the first ODI Series match of New Zealand Vs Bangladesh, Martin Guptill led the Black Caps for an 8 wicket win over Bangladesh at Napier.
The opener, who missed his chance playing for New Zealand at the recent T20I series against India last week due to injury, finished for the team with 117 runs not out.
The Black Caps chased the Bangladeshi team’s 232 runs with more than five overs to spare.
Henry Nicholls also boosted his chance to be the opener of the team in this year’s World Cup as he scored 53 runs in the standing partnership of 103 with Guptil after Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner both took three wickets each to rattle the Bangladeshi team.
After Bangladesh opted to bat first as they won the toss, they found themselves in trouble soon within the nine overs as Boult and Henry did considerable damage to them.
The score which was 121-7 almost took another 84 runs until the eighth wicket fell. The tourists hope were kept alive by the partnership of Mohammad Mithun who scored 62 runs and Mohammad Saifuddin who scored 41 runs. Their partnership allowed the tourists to have hope with 200 above runs before Santner broke the stand as he took the wicket.
When the Black Caps, came to batting position, they were in no hurry. Both Guptil and Nicholls were happy to go along with a steady batting rate as they brought the century partnership. However, after that, Nicholls fell to Mehidy Hasan in the 23rd over.
Kane Williamson was next to be LBWed by Mohammadullah but after that New Zealand was in control again as Ross Taylor joined the battings stand with Guptil and the pair added another 96 runs for the team to seal their win.
