The NZ vs BAN second T20I takes place in Mount Maunganui on December 29, where New Zealand and Bangladesh will go head to head. With the series tied at 1-1, this match could potentially be the decider. Bangladesh won the first T20I by five wickets, giving them a strong chance to make history.

In the first T20I, Bangladesh defeated New Zealand by five wickets, chasing down 134 with overs to spare. The Kiwi batting effort saw Jimmy Neesham top-scoring with 48, with skipper Mitchell Santner scoring 23. Bangladesh performed well with the ball, with Shoriful Islam taking three wickets and Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan taking two each. The Tigers bowlers made excellent use of the conditions.

As Bangladesh completed a successful chase, Litton Das top-scored with 42. Soumya Sarkar contributed 22, while skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, and Mahedi Hasan scored 19 each. Hasan was chosen as the Men of the Match for his 19 runs and two wickets.

With this victory, Bangladesh secured their first T20I win in New Zealand and their fourth overall against the Kiwis. Their win in the third ODI and the first T20I of the series without senior players will give the team confidence and set up the series nicely. Bangladesh’s T20I side consists of young players and an even younger bowling attack, with only Mustafiur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz as experienced bowlers.

The New Zealand T20I side, led by Mitchell Santner, is without Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson, who are rested from the three-match series. With Williamson’s ongoing fitness issues, New Zealand is preparing to play test matches against Australia and South Africa next year.

The Kiwis have been surprised by their recent defeats in the series. They will need to perform well in the remaining two games against a confident Bangladesh after their recent successes in Napier. Heading into the T20I series, New Zealand are ranked third in the ICC T20I rankings, while Bangladesh are placed ninth. This was Bangladesh’s fourth T20I win in 18 T20I matches in the head-to-head against New Zealand.
