In the previous few seasons, the fighting in the NHL has declined dramatically.
According to a statistical analysis report, only 18.5 games this season had fights on the scoresheet. As for 2017, it was 17.9 percent.
Compared to these figures, the percentage for 2013-2014 was 29.8 percent for the fights in NHL games. If you go back 10 years ago to the 2008-2009 season, it was 41.4 percent.
For those of you who were thinking that the fighting in NHL is going to go extinct, then you guys need to look at the last night’s Ryan Reaves vs. Adam McQuaid fight.
One commentator of the video even called this fight as “Mayweather vs. McGregor of the NHL.”
The bout, in a short span, had more punches then you can see on a real MMA fight. No player backed down but Reaves got the upper hand as he overwhelmed McQuaid with his flurry of punches in the end.
MSG broadcaster Sam Rosen said, “This was a heavyweight battle.”
