Nicole Gibbs, the American tennis paler is going to miss out on competing at the French Open after being diagnosed recently by her dentist with a rare form of cancer.
The 26 years old revealed to media and her fans that she was made aware of a growth that appeared on the roof of her mouth during her routine visit to the dentist last month. Further examination of the said growth revealed it to be a salivary gland cancer.
Nicole Gibbs, who is world ranked 116 is going to undergo a surgical procedure and is set to return for the competitive run at the Wimbledon which will begin on24th June.
Gibbs wrote on her Twitter account,
“Unfortunately I will be withdrawing from the remainder of the clay season and will not be competing at this year’s Roland Garros,” Gibbs said on Twitter. Fortunately this form of cancer has a great prognosis and my surgeon is confident that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment.”
Gibbs also revealed to the public that her surgeon has allowed her to play in her recent ITF events which according to her will be a nice distraction.
As for the French Open that is going to take place from May 26th to June 9th, will be hosted at the Roland Garros as the second major Grand Slam of the season.
