In the final of the Luxembourg Open held between Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko and her former partner of doubles Julia Goerges, it was Ostapenko who won the final by 6-4 and 6-1 to win the title of Luxembourg Open.
The pair had played against each other back in 2017 but as for the singles final, they were playing it for the first time in the career.
The former French Champion Ostapenko has won her 3rd WTA singles title which is her first since the last one at Seoul open back in 2017.
As for Georges, the defending champion of the Luxembourg Open, she was on the 9-match winning streak before she succumbed to the major loss. The 2nd seeded German player lost the match after her 3rd double fault of the game.
Somewhere else in Moscow, the final between Belinda Bencic and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for the Kremlin Cup ended with the 3-6, 6-1 and 6-1 win for Bencic.
Bencic, the 3rd seeded player of the tournament was able to defeat Russia’s Pavlyuchenkova in the 1st service game for the 2nd and 3rd set.
As for Bencic, she also stuck 8 aces despite only landing 54 percent of her serves.
Bencic with winning the Kremlin Cup as becoming the first-ever Swiss player to have won the title since 2000 when Martina Hingis won it.
By winning the final of the Kremlin Cup and securing he title, Bencic has now overcome Serena Williams on points at the WTA Finals. She is now qualified to participate in the finals held in Shenzhen, China.
As for the final of the Kremlin Cup, it was a 6-4 and 6-0 win for Andrei Rublev against his opponent Adrian Mannarino in a match that held on for 1 hour and 3 minutes. This is the first ATP Title win for Rublev since 2017.
As for Adrian Mannarino, the season had been a disappointing one as he has lost 8 of his last 9 ATPO finals. The only one he won was the Rosmalen Open held in June.
