Andy Murray lifts his European Open trophy for his 1st ATP final following his return after hip surgery

Andy Murray was able to finally claim his 1st ATPO tour title on Sunday night following his win at the European Open final.  This is the first title victory for Andy Murray after 2 and a half years and in his last 6 tournaments since his return to the sports following his hip resurfacing surgery back in January.

The 2 years old veteran player, Andy Murray made a rally to beat the 3-time Grand Slam champ, Stan Wawrinka by 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 to win the final.

The last time he won the final of a single’s tournament, it was back in Dubai in March of 2017. This is why; it did not come as a surprise to many as the tears started rolling down his cheeks.

Andy Murray said in the on-court review, “Obviously, this means a lot to me. The last few years had been really difficult for me and for Stan too. We have both been having lots of injury problems in the last few years. I was able to hang out near the end of the 2nd set and then the 3rd set was against a very close one. I did not expect to be in this position today so, yes, I am really very happy. This is the biggest win that I have had earned after everything I have been through. So I am really proud.”

Following his resurfacing hip surgery, Andy Murray made a return to the tennis court back in June when he played doubles at the Wimbledon and then moving into singles once more in August.

As for the 34 years old Wawrinka, he was looking to also win his 1st ATP Tour title since his last win being at Geneva Open in 2017.

Andy Murray is now going to take a break from the tour before taking part in the Davis Cup finals which will be held next month. Also, he is going to wait for his third child.
