Test Cricket will once more be returning to Pakistan for the first time in the last 10 years. The Test cricket will start with Sri Lanka visiting the country next month.
PCB, the cricket board of Pakistan has confirmed that Sri Lanka will play 2 matches; one in Rawalpindi on December 11th and then in Karachi on December 19th.
The last tie Pakistan hosted the Test Cricket was back in 2009 and it was also for the visiting Sri Lankan team. At that time, the bus of Sri Lankan players got attacked in Lahore city which left 2 civilians and 6 security personnel dead. 6 players of the team were also injured during this incident.
The director of International Cricket for PCB; Zakir Khan said, “This is great news for Pakistan and the country’s reputation of being safe and secure for any other country n the world.”
Previously, Pakistan has played its Home test matches at UAE since the attack but they have still hosted cricket events like One-Day and the T20 in the last few years.
Sri Lana invited Pakistan for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s back in September and October respectively. However, at both those time, the Sri Lankan team was missing 10 players due to security concerns.
Ashley de Silva, the Chief Executive for Sri Lankan Cricket said, “We are also very pleased to announce our return to Pakistan. As based on our previous visits to the country, we are really comfortable and convinced about the conditions being suitable and also conductive for the Test Cricket.”
He added, “We also believe that all of the countries that play cricket, should host their International cricket events at Home. Talking about this, we are really happy that we are playing our part to complete the resumption of the International Cricket in Pakistan.”
