Petra Kvitova is bidding to become the second player ever to be winning the hat trick of the titles at the upcoming Nature Valley Classic after confirming her return this summer to Birmingham.
The Czech player, who suffered from a horrific stabbing incident at her home last December, picked up her first trophy at the Edgbaston Priory back in 2017. She again defended her title back in the summer of 2018.
The only player who has won the toile for 4 times in a row was the American player named Pam Shriver who won it from the year 1984 to 1987.
Kvitova said, “Birmingham is one of those events on my calendar that I look most forward to. I have my most beautiful memories of winning the title here for 2 straight years. The tournament there has a special atmosphere to it which makes the players feel welcomed. It will be really great to be back there this summer again.”
Kvitova, the 2 times former Wimbledon champion managed to reach the final of her third Grand Slam when she faced Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open earlier this year. She got defeated by Osaka but managed dot solidify her place at world rank no. 3.
As for the Champion of the tournament from the year 2016, Madison Keys, she has also joined in bidding to win the tournament which will start from June 15th to June 23rd.
