Caleb Plant continued his unbeaten streak on his Monday night fight against Jose Uzcategui as he beat his opponent on points to become the IBF Super Middleweight champion.
Jose Uzcategui was knocked out by the American fighter Plant twice in the early rounds. However, Jose Uzcategui still managed to hang on for the few rounds but ultimately Caleb Plant won the crown at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Heading into this fight, Plant said that he was fighting this fight in memory of his 19 months old daughter Alia who died back in 2015. Alia was born with a medical condition that resulted in her having seizures.
After the win, the Plant who was emotional was coming down with tears.
Plant said, “I have worked my life, 17 years for this moment to happen. I also buried my daughter in process to get this belt.”
As for the Venezuelan Uzcategui, he was defending his title for the first time after he inherited it back in July. Britain’s James DeGale relinquished his title six months ago as he chose to pursue bigger money fights than his mandated fight against Uzcategui.
26 years old Plant’s career record is now which includes 18-0 with 10 knockout wins. On the other hand, Uzcategui’s career record is 27-3 with 23 knockouts.
Uzcategui was knocked down by the Tennessee champion during the second and fourth round.
This has been the first world title fight of Plant along with it being his second fight in which he fought for full 12 rounds.
