The world rank no. 1 Naomi Osaka has withdrawn herself from the semi-finals of the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart following the abdominal injury on Saturday.
Osaka, in a press conference, told media that she began feeling the injury during her quarterfinals match held on Friday when she was coming back down from being 5-1 during the 3rd set and managed to defeat Croatian Donna Vekic.
Osaka said, “I wanted to wait and see if I could play. Today when I woke up, I had to roll out of the bed and there I decided I was not ready and able to play.”
With her withdrawing, Osaka’s opponent, the 8th seeded player Annette Kontaviet will now advance into her career’s 5th WTA final with a walkover win. Earlier, Kontaviet managed to reach the semis by when her opponent Victoria Azarenka got hurt and retired from the match in the quarterfinals.
As for Osaka, she believes that she will not be slowed down by the abdominal pain as he has endured many of them over the years.
As for Kontaviet, she will now face Petra Kvitova in the finals of the event. Kvitova manage dot reach the finals after winning the semi against Netherland’s Kiki Bertens by 7-6, 3-6 and 6-1 in a match that lasted for 2 hours.
This is the 4th final this year that the world rank no., 3 Kvitova has managed to reach. She is bidding to win her 2nd title of the year having won her first at Sydney back in January.
