Darren Sammy both outperformed and outstrategized against his opposing team captain Imad Wasim as he led the Peshawar Zalmi for a rather great win against the Karachi Kings by 44 runs in the 9th match of the PSL 2019 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Kings were under much pressure after losing 4 wickets at 48 runs. However once Imam Ul Hasan took stepping on to the pitch, he withstood his spot as he scored 56 runs off of 43 balls. He was further aided by the decision of Imad Wasim who did not appeal to review his LBW appeal midway through the Kings’ innings. At that time, the pair had made a six. After Imad’s departure from the pitch, Imam and Liam Dawson took the field as they both stood for a long 76-run fifth wicket partnership.
However, their great partnership was broken by Sammy with his tremendous batting as he stood at 24 runs not out off of 10 balls.
As for Hasan Ali, from Zalmi’s side, he once again displayed his tremendous bowing prowess from the team’s last match against Lahore Qalandars. Hassan Ali took 4 wickets by giving away mere 15 runs in three overs. The sot finest performance from Hasan’s part was when he runout Babar Azam with his own bowling to end his inning at 1 run.
Kings needed 101 runs with 4 wickets remaining off the last 10 over. With Sikandar Raza being bowled out, there was much responsibility for Imad and Mohammad Rizwan. Imad, although outscored Sammy with 26 runs, he only managed that score off of 27 balls. As for Rizwan, he went through the 28 ball innings with no boundary in any of them, which symbolizes the Kings disciplined bowling on the night.
Zalmi were desperate after Imam-Dawson stand ended, but Sammy came in for the rescue as he scored 16 runs in the last five balls to get his side past 150 runs target.
Hassan Ali was declared the Man of the Match with both his performance at the ball and on the field.
Zalmi with this win is currently only two points behind Quetta Gladiators at second place.
