The 1st eliminator of the PSL-4 was played between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi on Monday night in which Kamran Akmal was the start of the night from Zalmi’s side as they defeated King by 61 runs.
There was not an equal level match from the start as a win for Kings meant that they would be leveled with Zalmi with 12 points. However, Kings run rate on the night was so bad they could not manage to chase the score target and were bowled out at 9.1 overs.
From the start, it was apparent that Zalmi were not going to roll out easy on Monday night. Usman Shinwari from Kings’ side was their most powerful bowler but early on the night, Zalmi began their assault on him.
Kamran Akmal starred from Zalmi’s side as he scored three fours in Shinwari’s first over deliveries. In powerplay by Zalmi, Kamran and Imam Ul Haq stood for a long partnership of 61 runs while Karma Akmal scored 2 sixes to make 37 runs.
As for Imam Ul Haq, he bowled out during Shinwari’s delivery at 32 runs. The partnership of 12 runs in 13.2 overs was Zalmi’s best performance from their opening stand. Zalmi with their initial great powerplay had hoped to make the score chase at 220 instead of their final 203 at the loss of 7 wickets.
With now the ball in Zalmi’s hand, they again proved to be dangerous opponent as they bowled out two from Kings’ openings stand in two overs.
All in all, Kings lost this eliminator round match against Peshawar Zalmi with a loss of 61 runs.
With this win, Zalmi’s position in the Wednesday qualifier match against Quetta Gladiators is now firm. Their place is so firm that they actually are at the top of the league with 14 points which is also the same for Quetta Gladiators but with a better run rate.
