PSL-4, Match 26; Quetta Gladiators defeat Islamabad United by 43 runs

In the 26th match of the PSL-4 (Pakistan Super league-4) played between Quetta Gladiators versus the Islamabad United, Gladiators got an easy 43-run victory in a match played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

With this win, Quetta Gladiators have managed to place themselves in the playoff top spot leaving behind two qualification places.

Earlier, Gladiators won the toss and chose to bat first, giving out a message that they can not only chase but win on their own too. Ahmed Shehzad led the Gladiators by scoring 73 runs off of 43 balls.

Shane Watson and Umar Akmal kept the Gladiators chugging along in what was a 180 runs innings.

From United’s side, Ronchi gave a brilliant performance as he scored 64 runs off of 43 balls but Islamabad United’s powerplay was quite devastating that led to their defeat. Sohail Tanveer and Mohammad Nawaz were not that much of a help for United in the powerplay. Finally, when they started to let loose, Fawad Ahmed came up with his spin bowling to send the top order of United back to the benches.

Islamabad United is now sweating as they are very close to being eliminated out of the playoffs.

Islamabad United tried to establish the foothold by the end of eight over as the scored 61 runs without loss of a wicket but Fawad changed all that.

With this win, Quetta Gladiators now have two spots in the playoffs meaning that they will not get to two chances for qualifying for the final of PSL-4. As for Islamabad United, they are on life support for the playoff for which they will contest it out with Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars.
