LA Angels Albert Pujols had his 2,000th career RBI on Thursday game of MLB against Detroit Tigers which was then caught by a fan of the Tigers. However, the fan has refused to give up the historic MLB ball. On Friday, the fan took his experience over to Facebook which he suffered from the Tigers staff as well as the Comerica Park.
The name of the fan is Ely Hydes who despite receiving several generous offers from Tigers and Angeles, refused to give up the ball. He has refused every offer despite the fact that MLB has said that they would not authenticate the ball once it leaves the Comerica Park.
Hydes, On Friday, wrote on his Facebook page, “the ball is sitting right here with me at my coffee table.”
33 years old Hydes said that it was an honor for him to catch the ball and he also tried to act with honor all day as he thought it was obligated for him. Instead, Hydes wrote that despite him letting the fans hold the ball and pose for pictures with it, they were all so cynical about it.
Hydes also wrote why he chose the keep the ball not because of sense of entitlement but due to the way how the Tigers’ management had treated him.
He wrote, “I had very best of the intentions. This ball is most likely to end up in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I am sorry that no one is willing to authenticate it. The only reason that it has ended up being in my home is because of the poor way with which Tigers’ management treated me.”
When asked about the ball from Pujols, he said that Hydes has the right to keep this ball as a piece of history.
When asked if he would pay Hydes something to get the ball, he said that he would not pay even a penny for this ball. Watch the video of Pujols’ interview over the possession of the ball by Hydes.
