A little after the youngest American footballer made his 10th international goal, Christian Pulisic had to leave the field while limping due to another leg injury.
In the 4th minute of the match, Pulisic scored the first goal for the US as the match later went on to tie against Chile at 1-1 on Tuesday night. This tie game ended Gregg Berhalter’s hopes of becoming the first ever American coach to win his team first 4 games.
This season, Pulisic has been limited to only 15 league matches as well 25 for the whole season for his club Borussia Dortmund. Back in October of last year, he tore his calf muscle and later in February he tore his thigh muscle. His absence from the games caused the 19 years old English footballer Jardon Sancho to emerge.
Berhalter said, “in my opinion, you look into why and you make inquiry as to why did this happen. Then you make some adjustments.”
Back in January this year, Chelsea agreed for buying Pulisic for 64 million Euros by hands of Dortmund and then loaned him back to the club for the whole season.
Pulisic, who is 20 years and 189 days old, broke the record of being the youngest American to score in double digits. The last record was held by Jozy Altidore who set the record at 20 years and 337 days of age.
As for Chile who currently ranks 13th in the world, they managed to tie the game with a goal scored in the 9th minute. The goal was made when their 28 years old defender Oscar Opazo scored his first international goal.
Before this match, the US have not allowed any goal to be made by other teams in the three matches. The 3 wins under Berhalter matches the record of US wins by Bob Bradley set back in 2007.
