Rafael Nadal said to media that he is feeling healthy and fine after he played an exhibition match and won it in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
The old no. 2 Nadal and to pull out from Brisbane International after an MRI scan revealed that he has a strain of his left thigh that resulted in doubts about his participation in the upcoming Australian Open.
The Spanish player has not been able to play in any event after he was forced to retire from the US Open following a knee injury in the semi-final match against Martin Del Potro back in September. After that, he also underwent surgery for his ankle in November to lose an intra articular body. He only started his training one month ago.
To start off his season, he played in an exhibition match held in Dubai which he lost against Kevin Anderson and was forced to be out from the Brisbane International.
In the Monday’s evening FAST4 Showdown match, he teamed up with Canadian payer Milos Raonic and defeated the Australian duo of Nick Kyrigios and John Millman. After the match, he said to media, “I did not feel the pain here. I think it was a good start for me and a really good comeback. I really enjoyed paling here. I am happy to be back on the court and happy to be healthy again.”
Nadal is now heading for Melbourne where he won the tournament back in 2009 and no he also believes that he can be a genuine contender too in the title again despite his injuries.
