Kyle Edmund, the British no. 1 player suffered a defeat at hands of Diego Schwartzman by 4-6, 6-3 and 6-1 at their first round match of Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
In the match, which lasted for more than 2 hours in Monaco’s Court Rainier III, Schwartzman managed to fight his way to victory in the second round as he won nine games in a row.
Edmund who was earlier defeated at hands of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech won his first set against the Argentinean opponent in little over 50 minutes.
However, after making a comeback in the second set, Argentinean player managed to won his three games of the third round as he extended his winning streak to 9 matches before Edmund managed to win to make the score 3-1. However, Schwartzman won the next three games to seal his victory.
Up next, Schwartzman will now be playing the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Tsonga on Tuesday.
As for the defending champion of the tournament, Rafael Nadal, he will be facing Roberto Bautista Agut.
The world rank no 22 Bautista managed to recover from his first set loss against the Australian opponent John Millman to win the match by 3-6, 6-1 and 6-1.
As for Novak Djokovic, the world rank no. 1, he will be facing Philipp Kohlschreiber. Kohlschreiber who back in the Indian Wells defeated Djokovic by straight sets managed to set the meeting with Serb again after defeating the Japanese luck loser Taro Daniel by 6-1 and 6-3.

In other matches, the 3 times Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka set his match next with Marco Cecchinato after defeating Lucas Pouille by 7-5 and 6-3.
