On Saturday night, Anthony Joshua was able to once more regain his world heavyweight title belt after defeating Andy Ruiz Jr. by going the distance of 12 rounds fight.
Joshua was able to regain his revenge for the hellish defeat he suffered earlier this year in New York as he floored Andy Ruiz Jr. 4 times in their rematch. He ultimately won the fight by the unanimous decision points to get back his titles of IBF, WBO, and WBA.
Anthony Joshua started the fight on the front foot as he exchanged blows early on in the fight. He swung his heavy hook to deal some damage to Ruiz Jr. to draw the first blood.
Ruiz Jr. responded in the 2nd as he put a cut on the right eye of Anthony Joshua but Joshua still remained poised.
The third round was mostly dominated by Joshua with his superior footwork but Ruiz Jr. was able to gain success near the 4th round’s end as he dealt an overhand right. Joshua felt the full brunt of that hit but the bell saved him.
Joshua still remained true to his fighting strategy as he gained the advantage in the 6th round with a left hook. The fight’s momentum got high in the 6th but Joshua gave a nasty stare to Ruiz Jr. for his 2 illegal punches.
The first-ever heavyweight boxer from Mexico was frustrated by the 7th round as he had received warnings from the referee for his illegal shots. Both boxers went for a toe-to-toe fight in the 8th that resulted in Joshua felling but stood back up and remained firm. Ruiz Jr. landed some more punches on the head of Anthony Joshua but Joshua did not go down and then suffered a little more punishment in the 9th round.
After that Anthony Joshua was able to make use of his defense and superior skills that made him the two-time world heavyweight champion and joined the list of esteemed boxers like Lennon Lewis, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali. He regained the win after being on the verge of defeat.
Two ringside judges scored the fight in favor of Anthony Joshua for 118-110 scores while the third also scored in favor of Joshua with scores of 119-09. After the results, Joshua celebrated the win with his family and also hugged Andy Ruiz Jr.
