There is a high possibility that D’Angelo Russell will make his first NBA All-Star game appearance in Charlotte next month.
Russell had a double-double with his 25 points and 10 rebounds while Spencer Dinwiddie scored 29 points for the Brooklyn Nets as they edged over a win against the Orlando Magic by 114-110 on Wednesday night. This was Nets’ fifth straight win.
The win would not have been possible for the Nets if Joe Harris had not stepped in to stop a potential basket of 7 feet tall Nikola Vucevic. This shot would have given the Magic’s a one-point lead with 1 minute and 25 seconds to the game.
Russell said, “that was the winning play right there. That was the icing on the cake right there.”
Harris said, “We call it MIG mentality and it is the most important guy. It is the opposite wing defender and I was just on the opposite block to him.”
Magic still had the chance to tie the game at 112 with 3.1 seconds to the buzzer but a basket from Vucevic was waived off after the replay review cleared that the Magic center tipped in the ball while it was on the rim after Evan Fournier had beaten Net’s Jarrett Allen to the hoop.
Vucevic said, “I thought it was already coming out. It is like a split second and it is really hard.”
Russell who had seven assists shot a pair of three free throws with 2.4 seconds to the game as he sealed the game in Nets’ win. With this win, Nets have now won 7 straight games at the Barclays Center. DeMarre Carroll added his 219 points for the Nets as well.
Magic were led by Vucevic who had a double-double with his hi 21 points and 14 rebound. This was Magic’s eighth loss in their last 11 games. Other players like DJ Augustine scored his 19 points and Jonathan Isaac scored his 16 points for the Magic.
Orlando Magic will now host a game against the Washington Wizards on Friday night, while Brooklyn Nets will host a game against the New York Knicks on Friday night.
