Rory Mcllroy and Justin Rose have both welcomed the wildcard pick up of Sergio Garcia in the European Ryder Cup team. The European team is set to face off against in their first match against Team USA that is happening later this month.
Five of the eight qualifiers for this year’s European Ryder Cup team happen to be rookies as they are going to be in the showdown held in Paris. Captain of the team; Thomas Bjorn decided to make his four wildcard picks with experience as he chose Sergio Garcia alongside other team members like Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson for the European team.
Garcia is currently enjoying his break after his poor performance in this year’s summer matches. However Bjorn is willing to bet on Garcia to make a great contribution for both teams and on the course in the upcoming match that is set to happen at Le Golf National.
Mcllroy and Rose told media that they are both agreed on the chance of not including players like Rafa Cabrera Bello, Matt Wallace, Matt Fitzpatrick and Russell Knox on the team but they are still supportive for the wild card pick of Garcia by Bjorn.
Mcllroy on this pick told media that, “in my opinion, with these five rookies, experience is going to be a thing especially at home. I think that Rafa, Ian and Henrik were certain and it was just in between Sergio, Rafa and perhaps Matt and couple of others. But in the end I think Sergio is definitely the right choice. Hat many people don’t see is that he brings a lot to the team room. He has much experience in the Ryder Cups and is a better partner for me. His records speak for themselves.”
