The fight between John Ryder and Bilal Akkawy ended with a stoppage victory for Ryder in the third round making him preserve his mandatory status for a chance to win the WBA super middleweight title.
With this win, Ryder has now given him the chance to go for a shot at the Calllum Smith’s WBA Super title. He managed to get a TKO victory over Bilal Akkawy on the undercard of the Saul Alvarez Canelo VS Daniel Jacobs fight held in Las Vegas on early hours of Sunday morning at the T-Mobile Arena.
After a cagey opening round, both fighters started to let their hands loose. Soon Ryder, the Londoner was able to drop Akkawy in the 3rd radon with his right hook counter.
Akkawy managed to get back up quickly but Ryder did not gave him the chance back in the fight as he pinned him with another hook which was followed by an uppercut that sent him to the canvas one more time.
The Australian fighter Akkawy, who was a late replacement to the fighter David Lemieux who himself sustained a hand injury two weeks prior to the gamer, made it back on his feet again. However, at this point referee Jay Nady called it a day mercifully as waved the fight off at the mark of 2:12 of the 3rd round.
Ryder, who earlier became a mandatory challenger to the WBA’s Super belt by beating Andrey Sirotkin in 7 rounds said, “I felt great, I was just taking my time with him. I want to fight for a world title. I strongly feel that I have served my apprenticeship. I have taken highs wit lows and I now want the biggest fights I can get.”
