Bernd Wiesberger won over Benjamin Herbert during the 3rd playoff hole of the ASI Scottish Open to win the tournament and also to win his overall 76th European title.
At The Renaissance Club located in North, Berwick was good on the par at 18th enough to earn him the Austrian victory for the 3rd Rolex Series of the season after Herbert suffered a bogey.
Herbert had earlier fired 9-under 62 during the final round to win his first victory on the 2 of the playoff holes but he missed his other short pout to hand the win to Wiesberger.
Still, Frenchman does have the ease of mind that he secured one of the 3 final qualifying places for The 148th Open held at the Royal Portrush. The other places went to Italy’s Nino Bertasio and Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston.
As for the third place of the Scottish Open, it went to France’s Romain Langasque with both Bertasio and Johnston having a 5-way tie for the 4th on 19.
Wiesberger, who had earlier missed 7 months of the previous season due to his wrist surgery said, “I knew it was not going to be an easy victory. Earlier, I had a great warm-up in the morning but then it got a little bit tough for me. I was not hitting the ball as better as I had been hitting for the three days. For Ben, it was a great week and he could have had easily snatched this win away from me but I am still glad as to how things turned out.”
