Sebastian Munoz has become the 2nd South American player to have won on the PGA Tour this year after he defeated Im Sung-je of South Korea at the play-off held of the Sanderson Farms Championship held in Mississippi.
This win from a South American player follows the earlier win from Joaquin Niemann at the Greenbrier Classic. Munoz was able to force in extra holes when he made a 15-foot bride on the par-4th 18yth which was the hardest hole for the course of the Country Club of Jackson.
He was then able to win the first extra hole at the very same 18th. Munoz was able to close at 2-under par 70 by having 4 shots clear of his opponent Im, who has been crowned as the PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year. Im’s three birdies on the 14th were included in his 66 shots of the day.
Munoz and Im both finished at the 18-under 270 where Munoz was able to be one stroke ahead of An Byeong-hun. This result certainly pleased Ernie Els, who is going to be the captain of the International Team for the Presidents Cup wick will be held in December against the team USA.
All of these 3 players are eligible to participate for the South American side with Els having 4 captain’s pick to complete the lineup in November.
As for Munoz, he said of his victory, “Victory of Joaquin definitely gave me a belief in myself that I am really good”.
