Simona Halep wins over Elina Svitolina to make it to her maiden Wimbledon final

In a dominant performance, the former world rank no. 1 Simona Halep was able to defeat her 8th seeded opponent Elina Svitolina in the Wimbledon’s semifinals. With this win, Halep has now made it to her first-ever Wimbledon final.

Halep seemed to be set on for a length match as the first 2 games lasted for nearly 20 minutes but 27 years old Halep was ultimately able to win both of them. She ultimately sealed her win over Svitolina by 6-1 and 6-3 in 1 hour and 12 minutes lengthy match.

Halep has only dropped one set on her way to the finals and is also the only Romanian player to have made it to the finals of the tournament.

She will now face the former world no. 1 Serena Williams after the 7 times Wimbledon Champion won her semifinals match against Barbora Strycova.

Halep said, “For me to face Serena Williams in finals of a Grand Slam tournament, it is a great thing. If you are able to win this match, this only makes it sweeter. If you lose, then you still have the chance to look forward to the next one. I am in a good position and I have no pressure on me whatsoever. I only have great expectations from myself that I can do better.”
