Spain defeat Faroe Islands by 4-1 to continue their march toward 2020 European Championship

In the group matches for the 2020 European Championship qualifiers between Spain and Faroe Islands, Sergio Ramos was able to tie the record of the making most appearances for the team as they defeated Faroe Islands on Sunday by 4-0.

33 years old Ramos was able to tie the record of match appearances previously set by team’s goalkeeper Iker Casillas who made 167 appearances.

The defender of Real Madrid, who has received a standing ovation after he got substituted late in the game held at the Gijón’s El Molinón stadium, is going to establish the new milestone for appearances if he plays for the team in their match on October 12th against Norway.

Ramos said, “To be able to equal for a record set by one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the sport is such a huge honor for me. It is very complicated but I had the good fortune of making my debut when I was really young and was able to have the favor of all the coaches and also being blessed to not suffer from injuries. I hope that I can defend my team’s colors for many more years to come.”

Ramos, who made his debut for Spain back in 2005, has the record of 125 wins with 20 losses and 22 draws. He has also helped Spanish team win 2 European Championships along with 1 World Cup.

Currently in the ranking of the European team from UEFA, Spain is held at 1st place while Italy is at 4th place. As for Faroe Islands they are ranked 53rd while Finland is ranked 43rd.

Spain is currently in lead of the Group F with its 18 points and is miles ahead of 2nd place Sweden who has 11 points.

As for Italy, they took a big step in the Group J with their 18 points to top the group.
