Spain wins its 6th title of Davis Cup Finals at home

Rafael Nadal, the year-end no. 1 gave it his all for allowing his team to win the Davis Cup Finals title at the Caja Mágica center court located in his hometown of Madrid.

The Spanish tennis star also hinted that he was actually exposing himself to a risk of getting seriously injured by playing 8 matches, which includes 3 doubles and 5 singles, in the span of 6 days held at the tournament of Davis Cup Finals. Davis Cup Finals is the new world cup of tennis.

Nadal won all 8 of his matches as he led Spain to their 6th win of the Davis Cup Finals title following the team’s 2-0 win over Team Canada.

However, in Nadal’s view, the only hero for the Team Spain was the grieving teammate Roberto Bautista Agut, who sent his team to the way of victory by winning his first singles match.  This was three days after his father passed away.

Nadal said, “I have won 8 matches in this Davis Cup finals but the man who vital for the team’s victory was Roberto.  For me, what he managed to accomplish was really inhumane. I don’t even know how to explain it. This will be an example for me for the rest of my life. He had to leave but then his dad died and he came back to practice with us yesterday. Now today, he played again at a very high level. This was something really incredible.”

Before Nadal won his match against Denis Shapovalov by 6-3, and 7-6 to win the title, it was Roberto, with Spain’s first win at Madrid since 2011, to beat Flex Auger-Aliassime by 7-6 and 6-3 to give the team a lead of 1-0.

After he won the final point of the game, he pointed his finger towards the sky and had his face drenched in tears before only making brief talks with the crowd.

31 years old Roberto is the current world rank no. 9 who was playing in place of teammates Marcel Granollers and Pablo Carreño Busta in the Davis Cup Finals for team Spain.
