T.J. Dillashaw is going to voluntarily relinquish his UC Bantamweight title after an issue with the USADA (US Anti Doping Agency) as well as the NYSAC (New York State Athletic Commission) following his defeat against Henry Cejudo back in January.
Dillashaw whose MMA career record is 16-4 and UFC record is 12-4 revealed the news on social media. He said in the spot that an adverse finding has come out following his UFC fight against the flyweight champion named Cejudo that was fought back on January 26th in Brooklyn, NY.
The news about T.J. Dillashaw failing a drug test has also been confirmed by not only New York State Athletic Commission but also by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
The statement released by the New York State Athletic Commission is as follows,
“The New York State Athletic Commission issued a one-year suspension and a $10 thousand fine to Mr. Dillashaw for violations relating to the use of a prohibited substance. We have no further comment.”
As for the statement by the USADA, it reads as follows,
“We can confirm that an in-competition test … resulted in an adverse analytical finding. In this instance, we are able to confirm the finding due to Mr. Dillashaw’s public statement. The presumption of innocence under the rules is a vital part of an effective anti-doping program and it’s only fair that Mr. Dillashaw be allowed due process before any conclusions are draw.”
Due to this dual statement situation, Dillashaw has voluntarily agreed to give up his own title.
Although Dillashaw has not revealed the substance that caused this adverse test to be done, he still intends to investigate it further along with his team and by working with both NYSAC and USADA.
