Tadd Fujikawa has now become the world’s first ever professional golfer to come out publicly as Gay.
27 years old Golfer currently playing his PGA Tour Canada, took it to social media to explain his life decision in a heartfelt post. The post states,
“I have been at cross road as to whether I should open up my sexuality or not. I always thought that I don’t need to come up because it won’t matter if anybody knows. However the stories I have heard in past of others have actually helped me get through all this. I have spent way too long not only pretending but also hiding and hoping of who I really was. I was afraid of what others would think of me.”
Revealing further in his Instagram post, “I have struggled with my mental health for many years all because of this. Now I am going to stand tall for myself and also for LGBT community. I hope to be an inspiration and make a difference in someone’s life.”
Fujikawa was noticed for the first time in Golf world when he qualified for US Open back in 2006 when he was only 15 years old. This made him the youngest competitor in the tournament’s history until Andy Zhang broke his record by being the youngest six years later.
Back in 2007, Fujikawa made it for the cut at the Sony Open that allowed him to have title of being the youngest player in 50 years to make a weekend at PGA Toru Event.
Speaking about the support tat Fujikawa received after he made the news announcement, “the love and support has been overwhelming. I am glad that I came out and now I can be the best version of myself.”
