In the World Boxing Super Series semi-final fight for the IBF super lightweight title between Josh Taylor and Ivan Baranchyk, Taylor won over his opponent after a splendid performance to book his spot in the WBSS final.
Taylor presented a splendid performance against his Belarusian opponent as he won by unanimous decision points of 117-109, and 115-111 from the other two judges. He will now bid to unite the WBA title in his fight with the WBA champion Regis Pogaris in the Super Lightweight final.
After having some back and forth exchanges, Taylor, whose career record is 15-0, was able to floor his opponent in the 6th round. From there he roared in rage under the cheers of the crowd present at the SSE Hydro arena in Glasgow.
The early 3 rounds saw both fighters feeling each other out as they both set their pace and changed in between stances while landing their sharp combinations. The Belarusian fighter kept a forward march on assault as he tried to rough up the local champion.
The 4th round saw Baranchyk to let his hands go from time to time as he dig in for body shots but Taylor as able to match his pace with his elegant footwork.
However, the 5th round saw Baranchyk landing in a decent right at Taylor’s face which left the Glasgow crowd gasping as Taylor’s left eye got bloodied.
However, Taylor replied back aggressively in the 6th round as he landed a short right punch to rock the Belarusian on to the canvas.
Baranchyk got back up by Taylor was in attack mode as he landed a flurry of body shots to drop his opponent 2nd time into the contest until he was saved by the bell.
From thereon, Taylor dominated the match with his precision strikes. As for Baranchyk aka The Best, he despite being hurt badly, held his ground until the end.
