Woad closed out a 2&1 victory in Match 8, a result that pushed Europe over the 14.5 points needed to retain the trophy outright. It was a redemptive moment for the rookie, who admitted afterwards that she had “felt like I was playing good golf and not getting the points” during the earlier team sessions before delivering the decisive point in front of a rain-soaked crowd on the final day.
Sunday’s singles were played in wet conditions at Bernardus, but that did little to blunt Europe’s momentum after they carried a lead into the final day. The 15-13 scoreline extends Europe’s recent hold on the competition, with the United States now searching for answers ahead of the next edition.
