Keith Thurman once again managed to retain his WBA welterweight world title after his return on the ring to earn a majority decision over Josesito in New York on Saturday night.
Thurman who had been out of the ring for the past two years, showed no signs of rust on the ring as he took control of the opening rounds had managed to knock Lopez down with a huge right hand to the chin to win in the second half of the fight.
Thurman who started a round of storming punches in the middle rounds was in trouble during the seventh round against Lopez’s fierce barrage of punches.
However, Thurman was deemed as the winner of the fight by two judges as on scorecards the result came out as 115-111 and 117-109 with the third seeing it a 113-113 draw.
Thurman said, “The Champ is back”. Thurman had to surrender his WBVC belt due to an injury but retained his WBA super world title which is a belt above the regular WBA belt held by Manny Pacquiao.
Thurman whose record improves now to 29-0 said that he is ready to take on the Filipino in the ring next. He said, “Maybe Brooklyn, maybe Vegas, wherever Pacquiao wants it I would even fight him if the fight happens in the Philippines.”
