The US Open is one of the few Grand Slam events of the year that attracts the spotlight from a high profile star celebrity list off the court. The fact is true for matches which are played under the lights and this Labor Day was also no exception.
In the round 4 match of the US Open between Rafael Nadal and Marin Cilic, there were many stars on the court and one of them was the renowned golfer named Tiger Woods.
Nadal and Woods are friends and they are both among the very successful and few of the most recognizable athletes in the world. They are also part of the Nike family and there is news that Nadal is also not a bad golfer.
Nadal joked, “It would be a lot better if Tiger would not see me swing.”
The world ran no. 2 and seeded 2nd at the US Open, Nadal has won previously 18 Grand Slam titles which includes him winning 12 record French Open titles. He is bidding to add the US open tile this year to his Grand Slam count which is going to be his 4th US Open title.
He has won the US Open title at Flushing Meadows 3 times back in 2010, 2013, and 2017. Currently, Roger Federer is leading the all-time Grand Slam title wins with his 20 Grand Slam titles. As for the world rank no. 1 Novak Djokovic, he retired from the US Open tournament this year on Sunday in his match played against Stan Wawrinka due to a shoulder injury.
After Nadal was able to make a comeback from his service break during the third set, Woods was seen leaping up from his chair and then mirrored Nadal’s reaction of a fist pump.
