The former Lyon open champion, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was able to move into the quarterfinals of the tournament after defeating the Canadian qualifier Steven Diez during theory match on Wednesday. With this win, Tsonga has extended his perfect record for the Lyon Open.
The 2017 Lyon Open champion, Tsonga was only 2 points away from losing the match but was able to win the 2 hours and 42 minutes long match by 3-6, 7-6 and 6-3.
The clay court season of Lyon Open is a warm-up season for many players as the French Open starts on Saturday in Paris.
Tsonga said, “For me to play a long match like today, it was a good thing. I have not played a long match such as tonight for a long while. I am not playing at my great level but still, I am playing with everything and that is giving me confidence.”
Up next, Tsonga will be playing against the top seeded player of the tournament, Nikoloz Basilashvili, who earlier defeated the lucky loser Tristan Lamasine by 7-5 and 7-5.
