Two of the New Orleans season ticket holder fans have filed a lawsuit in demand to either change the result of the match that resulted in the controversial defeat of the Saints to LA Rams or force a rematch to be scheduled again.
Supporters are Tommy Badeaux and Candis Lambert who want the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to implement the rule covering the “extraordinarily unfair acts” which resulted in New Orleans Saints’ loss to LA Rams in the NFC Championship game last Sunday.
According to them, the remedies of this should be the reversal of the game’s result or the rescheduling of the game all over again or at least from the point when this act occurred.
The hearing for this case has been set for six days before the Super Bowl match which will be played in between Los Angeles Rams and The New England Patriots.
The lawsuit has been filed as Saints believed that they were denied the opportunity to beat the Rams in normal time as officials chose not to flag the Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman who it the Saints’ wide receiver Tommylee Lewis even before the ball arrived on a third-and-10-pass.
In case the penalty had been called, Saints could have then run the clock down before they kicked a 31 yards field goal as time expired that would have ultimately resulted in their win to send them into the Super Bowl.
Instead of this, Saints kicked the field goal with 1 minute 24 seconds to the game which allowed the Rams to tie the game into OT and win the game.
Saints owner Gayle Benson says she will “aggressively pursue changes in NFL policy”. As for the head coach of Saints, Sean Payton, he says, the NFL’s senior vice-president of officiating; Alberto Riveron, told him that the call was incorrect.
