UFC 234; Robert Whittaker’s UFC middleweight title defence fight called off after hernia

The Australian UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker withdrew himself from the championship defense title fight against Kelvin Gastelum, which was to be held on Sunday’s UFC 234 in Melbourne due to a hernia.

UFC President, Dana Whyte says about Robert Whittaker, who has a career record of 20-4, he fell ill on Saturday night and complained about pain in his abdomen before he was diagnosed at a hospital for a hernia.

Now the highly anticipated no.1 fight as the main event of the Rod Laver Arena card will be between rising New Zealand star Israel Adesanya (15-0) and Brazilian veteran Anderson Silva (34-8).

This is the second time that the 29 years old fighter has withdrawn himself from a scheduled fight for a title in Australia. The last time was when an injury stopped him for a title fight against Luke Rockhold at the UFC 221 in Perth last year.
