Gregg Berhalter who is the new head coach of the U.S. Men’s national soccer team led them into a new era with a new attacking style and a new captain.
Gregg Berhalter, who has become the coach of US Men’s national soccer team, started his position with a win. Players from the US team; Djordje Mihailovic and Christian Ramirez both scored goals for their national team debuts as the Americans defeated the Panama players by 3-0 on the Sunday night match.
Berhalter said, “It is really nice to put the work after the extended period of time and get a reward for doing so. The guys should be proud of themselves. They really worked hard for this win.”
Another player from the US, Walker Zimmerman scored a goal as well which used a roster of 9040 players from all the Major League Soccer and is the smallest since the home game of October 2016.
As for the new captain, Berhalter made a surprise pick of making the 26 years old Aaron Long as the new captain during his third intentional soccer appearance instead of choosing the 31 years old Michael Bradley who was making his 143rd international appearance.
This decision was made by Berhalter during the training camp.
In this match, seven US new players made their international debuts which also include five starters. This lineup is the most since the 3rd September 1992’s game at Canada.
