US tops Cuba for 4-0 win as they reach semifinals of the CONCACAF Nations League

Only 5 weeks following their disappointing defeat against Canada and being on the verge of the elimination, the US team was able to gain the momentum once more with a 4-0 win over Cuba in the CONCACAF Nations League match. With this win, the US team is now advancing to the semis of the CONCACAF Nations League with their second win in a row and they are now looking forward to qualifying for the World Cup next year.

For the US team in this CONCACAF Nations League match, the first two goals of the game were scored by Josh Sargent in only 34 seconds in the field while 2 other goals were scored by Jordan Morris. These 4 goals allowed the US to route the Cuban team out of the group at George Town, Cayman Islands.  With this US now finishes its Group A campaign with a record of 3-1 with the top of the group being team Canada.

Sargent, after scoring his first 2 goals in a single international game said, “I think this is the first time in quite a while that this team has felt something really special. It has been quite a long journey and we still have many miles to go.”

For the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, these matches started with 2 games each in the past September, October and now 2 in November.  These games will then be followed by 2 games each in months of March and September of the year 2021.

In the 6-nation hexagon, the US will be joined by other nations like Mexico, Jamaica, Honduras, Cost Ira and most probably with either El Salvador or Canada. Top three out of these teams will have the berth to compete in the 2022 tournament which will be held in Qatar.

Morris said, “We think that we are moving the head in the right direction. We are really excited about the future ahead.”
