Lyn Williams and her US Women Soccer team sensed it shortly that it was only a matter of dragging it out before they would wear down their opponents; the Canadian women team.
Williams was able to break the scoreless stalemate between e two teams with a goal made during the 61st minute and then the team went on to beat Canada by 3-0 in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic qualifying final game.
Williams said after the game, “We have a great front line and we also have the great midfield. The defenders of our team did their job really well during the first half. So now it was turned for the rest of us to get this job done during the 2nd half.”
2 other goals of the US team were scored by Megan Rapinoe and Lindsey Horna and with this; the winning streak of US team extends to 28 games. Team US has not conceded a goal in their last 5 qualifying matches and they have scored 25 times.
Both the team US and Team Canada have already secured for them 2 spots in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics’ games with their victories in the semifinals. Team US, which is currently ranked no. 1 in the world, defeated Mexico by 4-0 in one of the semifinals while the world rank no. 8 team Canada defeated Costa Rica earlier on Friday’s semifinal match.
Since the women’s soccer was included in the Olympics Games back in 1996, team US has been in every Olympic and they have so far won 4 gold medals in the Olympics. 4 years ago, they were knocked out by Sweden in Brazil in the quarterfinals of the last Olympics games. That was the only early exist for Team US in the Olympic Games.
As for Team Canada, they have made it 3 times into the Olympics consecutively and have won bronze medals in the last 2 Olympics.
As for the meeting of both teams the US and Canada in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic qualifying final, it was for the 4th time and team US has won all 4 of these games.
