On Tuesday; USA Gymnastics Coach Kerry Perry resigned from her post following the fallout of the Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse scandal. She did so under the pressure of her responsibility of hiring a coach who then promoted Larry Nassar as an Olympic Doctor for the organization.
Kerry Perry resigned in front of USA Gymnastics’ Board of Directors where another board of director for the organization released the statement stating that, “I want to thank Kerry Perry for her leadership in these difficult times; on behalf of all the board of directors.”
Perry only served the post for nine months. In this short tenure she mad e series of missteps like handling case of Nassar and criticism from abused victims as to how they are going to protect athletes.
Nassar who formerly worked for decades as a Sports Physician at the Michigan State University; pled guilty for his sexual assault on numerous athletes under the guys of medical treatment. He was sentenced for a life time imprisonment of 175 years. Michigan Judge called Nassar’s action of attacking these girls and women under the guise of medical treatment not only despicable but also a precise, calculated and manipulative deed.
Perry presented her resignation after she hired Mary Lee Tracy for the position of USA Gymnastics’ Women Elite Development Coordinator. Tracy; a long time gymnastics coach actually voiced support in favor of Nassar after he was arrested back in 2016 for sexual abuse charges.
Tracy was forced to resigning from her job after she made her efforts to support Nassar increased.
Kerry Perry was hired to replace the former Steve Penny of US Gymnastics CEO, who resigned back in March of 2017. He also resigned under the pressure of being the defendant for Nassar.
