Villa deprived of the English Premier Cup lead in semis following 1-1 draw against Leicester

As Leicester was depleted with injuries and constant pressure, Aston Villa was only minutes away from having an unexpected advantage from the 1st leg of the English Premier Cup semifinal that was held on Wednesday.  

Then a farcical moment, as it is being called by the manager of Aston Villa, caused all the good effort from his players goes to waste.

Ezri Konsa, the defender for Villa was booked on a time-wasting call as he dallied on a free kick while standing in his team’s own half. He then compounded on that mistake by playing a short play as he misguided a pass to Douglas Luiz,, his teammate, who then immediately got dispossessed by Hamza Choudhry, the substitute player of Leicester.

The ball instantly made it to the 2nd half substitute of Leicester Kelechi Iheanacho, who was able to shift the flow of the game in his team’s favor with a forward left foot kick that allowed for the ball to went into the net from the top. With this goal, the match between Villa and Leicester ended in a 1-1 draw.

Now all of it rests on the two teams of Central England to play the 2nd leg of the English Premier Cup that will be held on 28th Jan at the Villa Park.

Brendan Rodgers, the manager for Leicester, whose team had earlier on over Villa by 4-1 in the match of English Premier Cup one month ago, said: “It sets up perfectly for us.”

The winner of the 2nd leg between these two teams will play in the final of the English Premier Cup against the winner of Manchester United VS Manchester City semifinals. City is currently in lead with the 3-1 first-leg win on Tuesday at the venue of Old Trafford.
